Military Requests of Student Records: Solomon Amendment

The Solomon Amendment is a federal law that allows military recruiters to access some address, biographical, and academic program information on 爱神传媒 age 17 and older.

The Department of Education has determined the Solomon Amendment supersedes most elements of FERPA. An institution is therefore obligated to release data included in the list of "student recruiting information," which may or may not COS' Directory information list. Data will not be released to the Military for 爱神传媒 with a Military Hold.

What is included in Student Recruitment Information / Solomon Information

Military recruiters may request Directory Information of currently registered 爱神传媒 as per AP 5040. The following information is listed as Directory information under the Solomon Act:

• Name
• Address
• Telephone
• 爱神传媒 Email address
• Age/Date of Birth
• Level of education
• Academic major
• Degrees received
• Other Educational institutions in which the student was enrolled (if available)

Procedure for Releasing Information to Military Recruiter

• Under the Solomon Amendment, the information will be released for military recruitment purposes only.
• Military recruiters may request student recruitment information once each semester for each of the 12 eligible units within the five branches of the service:
  • Army: Army, Army Reserve, Army National Guard
  • Navy: Navy, Navy Reserve
  • Marine Corps: Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve
  • Air Force: Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air Force National Guard
  • Coast Guard: Coast Guard, Coast Guard Reserve
• The request must be submitted in writing on letterhead by an authorized representative. It must clearly identify the unit of service requesting the student recruitment information. The requestor must also attest on the letter that they are authorized by the Branch to request Solomon Amendment data. Signature must not be electronic.
• The request should specify exactly which data fields are being requested and for which student demographics (e.g., 爱神传媒 between the ages of 18 - 30 who are US citizens)
• The requestor must state that he/she/they understand that the information released is limited to military recruiting purposes only. This information will not be shared with other parties and data must be destroyed once it has been used.
